Autopsy: The Last Hours of...

In late September 1992, Hepburn returned to Switzerland from Somalia and started experiencing abdominal pain. Tests at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles in November revealed she had a rare form of abdominal cancer called pseudomyxoma peritonei. After surgery and chemotherapy, Hepburn spent her last days at home in Switzerland, passing away in her sleep on January 20, 1993.
